With a length of 40 meters, the Giant Siphonophore (Praya) is one of the Earth's largest animals. This image shows a section of one that I located while scuba diving in Barkley Sound, British Columbia, Canada.
The velcro star, Stylasterias forreri, is the only species in the genus. It is distrbuted on the US and Canadian Pacifc coast. Aspect ratio = 1:1.
