Wrasses: fishes of the family Labridae
Due to their brillian color patterns, wrasses are one of the most conspicuous fish familes (Labridae) on Hawaiian reefs. As well, life stages and sexes can have distinct color differences. They are protogynous hermaphrodites which is a type of sequential hemphroditism whereby females develop into males. Forward pointing teeth enables wrasses to target and pick their food including parasites off other marine animals.
