Pink Salmon
Pink Salmon (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha) are also known as Humpback Salmon or simply as humpies. The Pink Salmon is the most ubiquitous of the Pacific salmon species found in Alaska. They contribute to over half of the number of salmon caught in the commercial salmon fishery. Alaskan Pink salmon are thought to be all two years old at maturation. There are thus even and odd year broodlines. Pink Salmon can spawn in the intertidal. Pink salmon emerge from redds during the spring as silvery smolts.
